Kathryn H. Crary

Kate joined Gadsden Schneider & Woodward LLP in June 2016 as counsel and became a partner of the firm in June 2020.  She began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Paul S. Diamond in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the firm, Kate practiced at Saul Ewing LLP and Cozen O’Connor in Philadelphia. Kate received her J.D., magna cum laude, and her LL.M. in Taxation from Temple University Beasley School of Law and her A.B., with distinction, from Cornell University.

Kate’s practice focuses on sophisticated estate and tax planning for high net worth individuals, charitable planning, estate and trust administration, and Orphans’ Court litigation, including guardianships. She also has significant experience in the creation and management of nonprofit organizations and charitable trusts.

Kate is the Chair Elect of the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Probate and Trust Law Section and Vice Chair of the Charitable Planning Committee of the American Bar Association Real Property Trust & Estate Law Section. She is a frequent presenter for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute and other organizations on topics including estate planning, charitable planning, and the taxation of estates and trusts. Kate recently authored an update for the American Bar Association’s RPTE Section on current cases involving Donor Advised Funds and has also presented to the Charitable Planning Committee’s quarterly meeting on that same topic. She was named a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer”  in 2019 – 2021 by Thomson Reuters, publishers of Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine, and a Pennsylvania “Rising Star” for 2016 by that same entity.

Kate lives with her husband and two daughters in Exton, PA, and is a longtime member of the Board of Directors of Darlington Arts Center in Garnet Valley, PA.  She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
